Ingredients
2 cups wholemeal flour
¾ cup toasted wheat germ
¼ cup brewer's yeast
⅓ cup of natural peanut butter
1 large egg
3/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth
3 tablespoons canola oil
To make
Wrap up a pack of homemade dog treats flavored with delicious peanut butter as a gift for the dog lover in your life.
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a large, shallow baking tray with parchment paper.Combine the flour, wheat germ, and brewer's yeast in a medium bowl. Whisk together the peanut butter, egg, stock, and vegetable oil in a separate bowl. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix with a spoon or rubber spatula until a coarse dough forms. Knead the dough in a bowl 5-6 times until smooth.Place the dough on a lightly floured work surface and roll out to a 1/4-inch thickness. Using a 3-inch dog bone cookie cutter, cut out the treats and transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Mix all the pieces together, kneading once or twice, then roll out to a 1/4-inch thickness and cut out more treats; repeat if necessary.Bake the treats until they are browned and firm enough, turning the pans once from top to bottom, about 30-35 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely; cookies will harden as they cool. Store in an airtight container.
