How to Make Cold Brew Concentrate at Home
Bookmark this page

Ingredients
2 cups coarsely ground coffee beans
4 cups cold filtered water
To make
We're all guilty of spending too much money on those expensive bottles of cold beer at our local third wave coffee shop. It turns out that it's actually too easy to make cold kvass with your own hands at home. Shouldn't we have told you about it?Fill a large measuring cup with coarse coffee (think: what you put in a French press). Pour the coffee in a slow and steady stream of cold filtered water, stirring the mixture to ensure hydration. Let the coffee brew at room temperature for 8 hours. Strain the coffee through a fine sieve, then once or twice through a coffee filter to get the most uniform drink. Serve this super-strong cold kvass on ice with lots of cream or milk, and a spoonful of maple syrup if you like. This cold beer concentrate is strong, so if you prefer black coffee, mix one part coffee with two parts water and serve with ice.Iced Coffee Concentrate
Pour the coffee into a large glass measuring cup or bowl. Slowly add the water, stirring occasionally, to dampen all the coffee grounds. Let stand for 8 hours at room temperature.Place the coffee filter in a funnel or mesh strainer over the bowl. Pour the coffee through the funnel. Repeat the procedure with additional coffee filters until the coffee is clear, 2 or 3 times.Serve cold-brewed iced coffee with cream or milk, or simply dilute the coffee with water in a water-to-coffee ratio of 2:1. If desired, sweeten with a simple syrup.
