How to Sort Of Cure Your Head Cold

Ingredients

1 tablespoon finely grated or chopped peeled ginger
1 tablespoon juice from 1 whole lemon
1 teaspoon honey (use manuka if available)
½ teaspoon turmeric
pinch of cayenne pepper
choosing a wellness supplement (optional, but I use Source Natural's Wellness Herbal Resistance Liquid)
Boiled water

To make

After taking a couple of Advil pills and feeling sorry for myself, there are a few things I do every time I have a bad cold or flu. First of all, I take a hot shower. Then I order the sharpest mapo tofu or curry I can find. Finally, I make what my family calls "moxie tea." The ginger, lemon and honey blend, based on a recipe from an old Bon Appetit release, has undergone a slight evolution since we first tried it — it's not inferior to the original. I've added my own recipes based on what I want, or what I have on hand, or the latest information about wellness trends that has seeped into my brain. Currently, my mixture has incredible taste qualities. Most likely, you will feel that you put too much lemon, or too much honey, or too much ginger. And feel free to reduce the amount of it if you need to! But for me, when things get tough, I resort to giant, overwhelming scents to get my sinuses — and my attitude-back on track. And in that respect, ginger is really the star of the show. The biggest discovery I've recently received is that you don't actually need to buy ginger root. Don't get me wrong — I love this drink. It looks like a baby was born between a potato and a piece of coral, and the fiery, bright taste is one of my favorites. But it hurts to clean it, and it hurts even more to grate it into something drinkable. And, it turns out, what is contained in a jar of crushed ginger is no worse. I picked up ginger from ground ginger on a whim one day, and it turned out to be making Moxie tea along with any other marinade and sauce, and the oatmeal I love - in one go. Now that we're entering the peak cold and flu season, there's no reason not to have a few cans in the fridge. Moxie Team Cupcakes 1 cup
