Lemon Sauce (for Bread Pudding)
Bookmark this page
Ingredients
½ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
⅛ a teaspoon of salt
¼ teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg (I prefer to exclude)
1 cup of boiling water
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest (I like it better than 1 tsp)
1 lemon, squeezed from the juice (I use a large one)
To make
I found this recipe on Target.com the recipe page provided by Ginger P. and it's excellent - very lemony and contrasts nicely with the bread pudding! I love the recipe for bread pudding with vanilla sauce published in Southern Living magazine in January 1997. However, I always have to prepare both sauces, since in this recipe we tried lemon sauce. We love them both!
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, salt, and nutmeg. Gradually pour in the boiling water, then simmer over low heat until thickened, stirring occasionally.Remove from the heat; add the butter, lemon zest, and lemon juice.Serve warm with bread pudding (recipe from Southern Living, January 1997).
