Apple Upside-Down Pie

Ingredients

1 cup chopped pecans
½ cup tightly packed light brown sugar
⅓ cup melted butter
1 chilled package (15 oz) with divided crusts
4 medium-sized Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into 1-inch-thick slices (approximately 1 3/4 pounds).
2 large Jonagold apples, peeled and cut into 1-inch-thick slices (approximately 1 1/4 pounds).
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

To make

It tastes just as delicious as its fun serving. Pecans, apples, and brown sugar sparkle in this upside-down pie.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Combine the first 3 ingredients and place on the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish. Place 1 piece of the pecan mass on the pie dish, so that the excess crust hangs from the sides.Combine the Granny Smith apples and the following 5 ingredients. Spoon the mixture onto the cake, tamping it tightly and squeezing it out in a mound in the center. Place the remaining crust on top of the filling; press both cakes together, bend the edges and squeeze. Place the cake on a jelly roll pan lined with aluminum foil. Cut 4-5 slots in the top of the cake to allow steam to escape.Bake at 375 degrees on the bottom rack of the oven for 1 hour to 1 hour and 5 minutes, or until the juice thickens and bubbles, the crust is golden brown, and the apples are tender if you poke them with a long wooden stick through the slots in the cake. If necessary, after 50 minutes, cover the cake with aluminum foil to avoid browning. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Place the pie on a serving plate; flip the pie onto a serving plate. Remove the pie dish and place the remaining pecans from the pie dish on top of the pie. Allow to cool completely (about 1 hour).
