Ingredients
3 pounds boneless and skinless chicken breasts
3 cups plain oatmeal, made the old-fashioned way
2 cups chopped yellow courgettes or zucchini
1 cup grated carrot
1 cup frozen green peas, defrosted
½ cup chopped fresh flat-leaved parsley
To make
If you want to diversify your own dog food preparation, this recipe contains a lot of low-fat protein and nutritious vegetables, and also uses healthy cereals (boiled oats), not corn.
Put the chicken breasts in a large saucepan; add water until the chicken is covered. Bring to a boil over high heat, and once the water boils, reduce the heat to medium. Simmer until the chicken is tender, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from the heat and let the chicken cool in the chicken broth in the pan for 30 minutes.Transfer the chicken to a cutting board, reserving the broth. Cut the chicken into small pieces. Combine the chicken, oatmeal, chopped vegetables, peas, and parsley in a large bowl. Add the chicken stock, 1/2 cup at a time, until the desired consistency is achieved, depending on your dog's taste. For storing dog food: Place in zippered plastic bags, close and store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 weeks. Check with your veterinarian to determine your dog's nutritional needs and serving size.
