Make Ginger-Citrus Ice Cubes and Feel Like a Genius

Ingredients

3 tablespoons grated ginger
4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
3 tablespoons manuka honey
3 tablespoons water

To make

Until recently, I didn't think about all the alternative uses for ice cube trays. Mine always languished in an overflowing freezer, filled with plain old water of varying degrees of hardness: lonely, underused, and extremely boring. But there are so many ways to use an ice cube mold for more than just freezing water — we've even included freezing milk and ice cubes for champagne. Especially now that the weather is getting hot and I'm starting to eat only frozen food (popsicles are the perfect dinner), mixing what can be frozen in ice cube molds is a game changer and makes any drink taste better. Case in point: ginger and citrus ice cubes. I'll wait for you to try to come up with literally anything more refreshing than this.In cubes, combine grated ginger, lemon juice, manuka honey, and a little water to add to just about any drink you want. The original recipe calls for a steaming Earl Grey mug, which would certainly be great when you don't have fried eggs on the sidewalk outside, but imagine it with a vodka tonic, or seltzer, or lemonade, or whiskey, or iced tea. Or imagine that all this is mixed into a mush. (I would recommend adding a little rum.) This ginger-citrus ice cube is basically a little black dress made out of fancy ice cubes: you can add it to anything and make the day a little more special. Luckily for you, it's very simple to prepare. Ginger-Citrus Ice Cubes This recipe first appeared on CookingLight.com .
