Vanilla Butter Cake

Ingredients

1 cup softened butter
2 ½ cups sugar
5 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup butter, halved
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Side dishes:
Lush winter-white glaze
Peel the powdered sugar

Beat the butter on medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add the sugar, whisking on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the eggs 1 at a time, whisking after each addition until smooth.Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to the butter mixture alternately with the dough halves, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Beat on low speed until smooth after each addition. Add vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured 12-cup baking dish.Bake at 325 degrees for 1-10 minutes or until a long wooden stick inserted in the middle of the pie comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Transfer from the pan to a wire rack; refrigerate for 30 minutes or until completely cooled. Decorate if desired.
