¼ cup cocoa
¼ cup butter
¼ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

from cdkitchen.com Recipe code: 24742 This is a simple and quick frosting that my grandmothers used to make. Here, at a high altitude, I cook it for two minutes.
Mix it up. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1 minute. Add vanilla. Allow to cool partially, then beat with a mixer for 3 minutes or until smooth to spread.CDKitchen Note: Please read the reviews for this recipe. We personally tested this recipe, and it WORKS if you follow the instructions. This recipe has received such different reviews that we thought it would be better to offer it on CDTestKitchen. You will notice that we give it 5 stars - this is because we got it perfect. We cooked the mixture for about a minute (maybe another 20-30 seconds), then let it cool slightly (just in case it spills, it won't burn!) and beat with an electric mixer for about 3 1/2 minutes. We used all sizes / ingredients exactly as specified in the recipe. People may be confused by the fact that this is not the lush icing that is used to decorate a cake. This icing is more suitable for brownies or cakes that are cooked in a frying pan. The mixture will harden a bit, however, but it definitely shouldn't be soupy, as some reviewers have mentioned. Be careful not to heat it too high, otherwise the sugar will start to turn into candy (which will make the mixture crunchy). We believe that the most important success factor is mixing time / technique. Do not try to mix it manually, you will not get the desired consistency. Also, don't let it cool down too much before applying, as it will harden even more when it cools down (to the point where it won't be easy to smear).
